The first Heritage Camp was organized in 1990 at Hemlock Overlook Park, Clifton, Virginia with over 20 campers. Since then, the Heritage Camp has been organized at its current location, Catoctin Mountain Park, Maryland with about 120 campers participated annually.

Heritage Camp is a two-day weekend summer camp for young Vietnamese-American interested in learning about the Vietnamese culture through interaction and team work. During this camp, activities are devised to help youths develop friendship, deepen their knowledge of Vietnamese heritage, and work together to resolve cultural gaps within families and in society. Past campers have been mostly students and alumni from area high schools, colleges and universities in Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Massachusettes, Connecticut, and neighboring states.

The Heritage Camp is administered by VCSMW, with voluntary help from students of local colleges such as University of Virginia, University of Maryland, Virginia Tech, College of William & Mary, Catholic University, George Mason University, Virginia Commonwealth University, Georgetown University, Old Dominion University, MIT, Carnegie-Mellon, Cornell, Universiy of Pittsburgh, and many others.
